WHAT IS MASSETER MUSCLE BLOCKADE

The masseter is actually one of the muscles in the body that helps with chewing. It is located on the side of the face and connects the cheekbone to the lower jawbone. When botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter area, it is called Masseter muscle blockade. Sometimes it can also be called Chin neuromodulator treatment.
In treatment, botulinum toxin is used to temporarily block nerve signals in the masseter area. As a result, the muscle cannot move and the person does not feel pain when clenching their teeth.

HOW IS MASSETER MUSCLE BLOCKADE TREATMENT APPLIED?

Masseter muscle blockade treatment is a quick procedure that does not require any prior preparation by the patient.
The first step is to discuss the procedure with the doctor with the patient. The doctor will examine the jaw line and draw up a roadmap based on the patient’s reasons for requesting the procedure. At the same time, the patient’s medical history is examined for masseter  muscle blockade application.

The execution of the procedure is just a few. takes minutes. The doctor cleans the skin to minimize the chance of infection. He makes markings on the area between the cheekbone and the lower jawbone on both sides, that is, the area where the masseter muscle is. Then he neuromodulator injection  into the marked area.
After the injection, the doctor massages the injected area to help the neuromodulator injection settle in its place and to help minimize the possibility of swelling and bruising. The patient resumes his normal daily activities immediately after the procedure.

CARE AFTER MASSETER MUSCLE BLOCKADE TREATMENT

In order for the side effects to pass quickly and to ensure that neuromodulator injection is fully placed in the target area, the following post-treatment care should be done:

 

No alcohol or nicotine use for the first 24 hours after treatment

Applying an ice compressor if redness, swelling and bruising are noticed in the treated area.

Not being in a lying position for the first four hours after treatment

Not applying pressure to the treated area

No exercise for 24 hours after treatment

24 hours after the treatment, places such as hot shower, Turkish bath, sauna should be avoided.
